Half birthday calculator

Six months from the big day — perfect for summer-birthday kids who never get a school party, December babies whose celebrations get swallowed by the holidays, or anyone who thinks one birthday a year isn't enough. Enter a birth date and get the exact half birthday, plus the golden birthday as a bonus.

Half birthdays, golden birthdays — what's the difference?

A half birthday is simply your birth date plus six months — a marker, not an age. A golden birthday happens once in a lifetime: the year you turn the same number as the day of the month you were born. Both are excuses to celebrate someone — and in our experience, the smaller the occasion, the more a surprise means.

Frequently asked questions

How is a half birthday calculated?

Add exactly six months to your birth date. Born March 10? Your half birthday is September 10. If your birthday is at the end of a long month — August 31, for example — the half birthday lands on the last day of February, since there's no February 31.

Why do people celebrate half birthdays?

Mostly for kids whose real birthdays fall near big holidays or during summer break, when friends can't come to a party. Schools often celebrate summer birthdays on the half birthday. And some families just like an excuse for cake twice a year.

What is a golden birthday?

Your golden birthday is when you turn the age that matches the day of the month you were born — turning 14 on the 14th, or 27 on the 27th. Enter your birthday above and the calculator shows your golden birthday year automatically.

Do half birthdays change in leap years?

Only one: February 29. A leap-day baby's half birthday is August 29 every year — one of the reasons leap-day families love half birthdays, since the "real" date only exists once every four years.

Make the half birthday the surprise one

Nobody expects a gift on their half birthday — which is exactly why a custom song lands so hard. Upload a photo of them and we'll write and record an original song about it in about a minute.
